After spending 12 years working on his writing system, Seqouyah and his daughter introduced the Cherokee Alphabet, aka "Talking Leaves" to the Cherokee people in 1821. Within a few months thousands became literate.
This horse design honors Seqouyah, and his Alphabet. I chose to embellish his beaded blanket with a silver italian charm because I had read that Seqouyah was a silversmith..
"Cherokee Indian Horse"
are inscribe on charm using the letters
of the Cherokee Alphabet.
The reverse side of horse there is
an inverted triangle symbol which means "Inspiration,
one who inspires others."
*please note; There
is controversy regarding the photo at top of page. Some say it is not Sequoya others say
it is him. I am
using it as most references
I have read used it to depict him.
