The most re-knowned woman warrior among the Cheyenne

Buffalo Calf Road Woman
aka "Brave Woman"
©™2008DRBall rights reserved

During the Battle of the Rosebud she rode out into the battlefield at full speed  grabbed her brother, and carried him to safety. This courageous rescue caused the Cheyenne to rally and to defeat their enemy, General George Crook. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn she fought beside her husband, Black Coyote. Afterwards, the Cheyenne called her Brave Woman. She died of malaria in 1878

The 2008 horse was long in coming. FINALLY it came to me "honor a Native American woman". In my research I discovered Buffalo Calf Road Woman. She was a brave woman, when she was finally captured and sent to a reservation she was considered a prisioner of war.

My mom is 83 years old and in the process of dying. Eight years ago my dad passed away around this time year (October). I didn't think of it until now but it seems that this horse will also be a dedication to my mom. Most of my life my dad was self-employed. Although he was considered the "bread winner" it was my mom who helped him build his business. A modern time warrior she who stood along side my dad through the tough times and the good times. "Brave Woman" repesents  all women from stay at home moms, to  executives,  who battles may differ yet are no less important.drb
